General course organization and Methodology

L’objectiu principal de l’assignatura és integrar dels coneixements teòrics amb les competències pràctiques de la comprensió auditiva de la llengua i de la seva producció oral. S’orienta al món professional però també es dedica temps a coneixements i capacitats més propis de la interacció quotidiana i social. És pretén el següent:
- Proporcionar models del llenguatge adequats per a les diferents situacions professionals relacionades amb els sectors de la publicitat i les RRPP (les reunions de negocis, presentacions i les entrevistes de treball) i oportunitats per a practicar tipus diferents d’interacció i conversar sobre temes tant professionals com quotidians (Social English).
- Millorar la capacitat d’entendre la llengua parlada.
- Promoure les habilitats dels estudiants de utilitzar efectivament les funcions lingüístiques: expressar i demanar idees, opinions i desitjos; negociar, resoldre problemes, etc.
- Desenvolupar estratègies de comunicació verbal.
- Millorar la precisió gramatical, la fluïdesa d’expressió i la pronunciació.
- Parlar de temes de l’actualitat i les notícies.
- Conscienciar els estudiants dels factors culturals rellevants associats amb la necessitat de comunicar-se efectivament amb professionals de tot el món, amb especial èmfasi en el model angloamericà d’interacció.
- Fomentar la màxima implicació dels estudiants en el seu procés d’aprenentatge.
- Fomentar tant l’autonomia com la capacitat de treballar en equip.
Per tant d'assolir aquests objectius, l’assignatura s’impartirà en 2 blocs, en els quals es treballarà principalment però no exclusivament:
i) les reunions de negocis.
ii) les presentacions i les entrevistes de treball.
A cada bloc hi hauran activitats específiques directament relacionades amb el tema tractat, més activitats més generals. Es pretén utilitzar una metodologia activa que fomenti la participació per part dels estudiants en totes les activitats formatives. És recomanable assistir a classe, i la participació constructiva es valorarà.
L’avaluació única no es recomana per als alumnes que no tinguin el nivell B2 com a mínim.
L’organització de l’assignatura experimentarà un canvi aquest curs, per tal de fomentar l’aprenentatge i la participació de l’alumnat a l’aula. Els alumnes es dividiran en dos grups segons el nivell d’anglès (nivells B2 – C1 i nivells B2- B1). La primera sessió de cada setmana serà amb el grup sencer, i la segona amb un dels grups reduïts, alternant les setmanes; per tant els alumnes tindran 4 hores d’anglès una setmana i 2 la següent. Perderen 13 hores presencials, les quals es cobriran amb activitats adients de formació a l’aula virtual.


Course Topics
Block 1 English for the Workplace (L’anglès per al lloc de treball) i les reunions de negocis

Introducció a l’anglès per al lloc de treball: parlar de l’organització i les seves activitats, el personal, parlar de la teva feina, etc.
Les reunions de negocis: obrir i tancar una reunió: - expressar la teva opinió; negociar; expressar acord i desacord amb altres opinions; interrompre amb educació.
La importància del turn-taking en l’ interacció professional i social.
El "social English" i expressions freqüents en situacions diferents.
L'Hora 3: el factor cultural, la importància del cultural awarness en el tracte professional i personal i temes de la vida quotidiana.

Block 2 Les presentacions

Introducció a les presentacions: "Do's and don'ts" per a presentacions efectives.
Tècniques bàsiques: com començar; el desenvolupament: com estructurar les idees: el signposting; com acabar.
Tècniques potents de comunicació per a connectar amb l’audiència: la repetició, els anècdotes, el rule of three, els mantras, etc.
Les preguntes del públic i estratègies efectives per a contestar-les.
L’entrevista de treball.
L'Hora 3: el factor cultural: la importància del cultural awareness en el tracte professional i personal, i temes de la vida quotidiana.

Video activity 1. Roleplay of a business meeting, related to a relevant professional topic, filmed and handed in on a USB or CD. (25% of final mark).

Video activity 2. A team presentation related to a relevant professional topic, filmed and handed in on a USB or CD. (25% of final mark).

Although students are given individual marks, there will be a group element for questions of organisation, effort and relevance of topic for both activities.
